What Is The Difference Between A TV Listener and A Personal Listener?

TV Listeners and Personal Listeners

When you or a loved one starts to experience some sort of hearing loss, it can be both disconcerting and a little scary. Hearing is such a critical component of our everyday lives; it helps us feel connected and communicate easily with the outside world. The good news is that there is a lot of modern technology available to help people with hearing difficulties redress the balance, but unfortunately, there is not a lot of documentation or information available to help inform and educate families make the all-important decision on which type of product to purchase. One of the most frequent questions we get asked is what is the difference between a TV listener and a Personal Listener?

What is A TV Listener?

TV Listeners do precisely what they say on the tin. A TV Listener is designed to help the wearer enjoy the pleasures of their television, radio and any other audio products without the need for wires trailing across the living room. A TV Listener provides the wearer with the freedom to sit back, relax and enjoy their entertainment without disturbing anyone else and without the limitations that a wired device inherently has.

A TV Listener is designed with listening to the TV and other audio electronic device at its core. TV listeners contain more parts than personal listeners (usually a transmitter connected to the TV and handheld receiver). Both of these work with a neck loop for hearing aid wearers and an under chin headset for non-hearing aid users.

What is a Personal Listening Device?

A personal listening device is a different type of product that is specifically designed to amplify conversations both at home and when out and about. It is much more portable than a TV listener as it does not need to be connected to the TV. Although its primary purpose is not for TV listening and although there is no transmitter connected to the TV, some of the more recent devices can be connected by a wire to the TV if and when required.
